Hope through Rehabilitation and Research

The Burke Rehabilitation Hospital and Medical Research Institute honored three outstanding individuals at its annual dinner in 2012 in White Plains, NY.  reelmatters' short films about each honoree were integral components of the awards presentation.  This film is a tribute to Lauren Manning, a 9/11 survivor who completed her rehab at Burke after suffering catastrophic burns on more than 80% of her body, and whose extraordinary recovery has been chronicled in the media and in her best selling memoir.

Kula for Karma

Igniting the Human Spirit

Kula for Karma provides therapeutic yoga and meditation to numerous populations, from cancer patients and recovering addicts, to prison inmates and special needs children. The creative challenge was to communicate the essence of what Kula does -- providing coping tools to those in trauma -- through just a few of their many stories.

Katie at the Bat

A Racquet, a Chance

Katie-at-the-Bat uses athletics to support inner-city girls in multiple dimensions of their lives, helping them to achieve their fullest potential. Using the client's existing footage, this film highlights the bridge that KATB is building between Philadelphia's suburban and urban communities, and the common dreams that parents from both communities have for their children.
